World Central Kitchen Resumes Operations in Gaza
World Central Kitchen (WCK) CEO Erin Gore announced that the organization is resuming its operations in Gaza, including northern Gaza, with a commitment to providing food assistance to those in need.
Background
World Central Kitchen, a humanitarian group, had temporarily halted its operations in Gaza after losing seven aid workers in an Israeli airstrike on April 1. The group’s celebrity chef Jose Andres made the decision to pause operations following the tragic incident.
Renewed Commitment
In a statement, CEO Erin Gore expressed the organization’s determination to continue delivering food to the people of Gaza despite the challenging circumstances. The organization has already distributed over 43 million meals and aims to provide millions more to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in the region.
Resilience in the Face of Adversity
Despite the loss of their colleagues, WCK remains steadfast in its mission to feed as many people as possible. The organization acknowledges the risks involved but believes in the importance of their work during times of crisis.
Continued Support
WCK plans to utilize its fleet of 276 trucks to transport nearly 8 million meals into Gaza through the Rafah crossing. Additionally, trucks will be dispatched to the enclave via Jordan to ensure efficient delivery of food supplies.
With a renewed sense of purpose, World Central Kitchen is committed to providing essential food aid to the residents of Gaza and upholding the universal right to access nutritious meals.
