Rooney aims to build a squad that plays expansive football and entertains the fans. He praised the talent of the existing players at Argyle and looks forward to the upcoming Championship season in August.

Background and Support

Argyle’s director of football, Neil Dewsnip, has a history with Rooney from their time at Everton’s academy. The club is on an exciting long-term journey with a progressive plan in place, and Rooney is grateful for the opportunity to be part of it.

The club recently appointed Rooney as the new Head Coach, welcoming him to Argyle with enthusiasm.

Before joining Plymouth, Rooney had managerial stints at Derby and DC United. Plymouth had parted ways with Ian Foster in April and narrowly avoided relegation under the guidance of Dewsnip and first-team coach Kevin Nancekivell.

The coaching staff at Plymouth, including Nancekivell, Simon Ireland, and Darryl Flahavan, will continue their roles, with further additions expected in the future.

Exciting Times Ahead

Plymouth chairman Simon Hallett expressed his confidence in Rooney, highlighting his passion, intelligence, and knowledge in football. Hallett believes Rooney’s ambitions align with the club’s mission and looks forward to an exciting season of Championship football under Rooney’s leadership.
