Volkswagen’s Latest Electric Vehicle Could Be Priced as Low as €20,000

Volkswagen’s Affordable Electric Car Announcement

Volkswagen has confirmed plans to launch an affordable, small electric car in Europe by 2027. The new electric vehicle, known as the NEV (New Electric Vehicle), aims to provide entry-level electric mobility for European customers.

Key Points About the NEV:

  • Potentially priced as low as €20,000
  • Replacement for the Up and e-Up models
  • Built in Europe to support the European industrial location
  • Expected to take the ID.1 moniker when released

European Car Industry’s Response:

Affordable electric models like the NEV are crucial for European car manufacturers to compete with Chinese car makers. The move towards electric mobility is seen as a strategic response to the changing automotive landscape.

Expansion of Electric Model Lineup:

Alongside the NEV, Volkswagen Group plans to introduce more affordable electric models such as the upcoming ID.2, Skoda Epiq, and Cupra Raval. These models are expected to offer a range of up to 400km with prices starting from around €25,000.

Seat’s Role in the Electric Car Strategy:

Seat, a Spanish brand under Volkswagen, is set to play a crucial role in the production of the affordable electric cars. With plans to manufacture the €25,000 models in Seat’s plants in Spain, Seat may also introduce a variant of the NEV as part of its lineup.

Volkswagen’s Commitment to Electromobility:

Volkswagen emphasizes the importance of political support and competitive framework conditions for the success of electromobility in Europe. The brand aims to set new standards in technology, design, quality, and customer experience with its entry-level electric vehicles.

By producing a small electric car and batteries in Europe, Volkswagen aims to reduce the carbon footprint associated with importing cars from China, aligning with the brand’s commitment to sustainable practices.
