Vivienne Westwood-designed Playing Cards to be Sold for Greenpeace Fundraiser

Vivienne Westwood’s Playing Cards for Greenpeace

A series of playing cards designed by the late Vivienne Westwood to raise awareness about environmental and political issues are set to be auctioned off to support Greenpeace.

Project Overview

Before her passing, Westwood conceived the idea of creating 10 digital graphics highlighting messages close to her heart. These graphics are now printed on large-scale autographed cards, forming limited-edition playing cards that will be auctioned by Christie’s.

The Auction

The playing cards will be sold in a portfolio containing 10 digital prints on Hahnemuhle Museum Etching 350gsm paper, each signed with a pencil. The first portfolio, presented in a linen-covered, hand-embroidered box, will be auctioned on June 25th with an estimated price of £30,000 to £50,000.

The Big Picture Project

Titled “The Big Picture – Vivienne’s Playing Cards,” the project is created by The Vivienne Foundation in support of Greenpeace. The collection includes powerful designs such as a card featuring a young Westwood with the words “ME PUNK” and “save the world,” as well as a skull and crossbone design over a world map with the words “too fast to live / too young to die.”

Vivienne’s Activism

Throughout her life, Vivienne used her voice to fight for justice and raise awareness about environmental issues. She aimed to raise funds for Greenpeace to protect rainforests and oceans and combat climate change.

Legacy and Impact

Vivienne’s playing cards serve as a lasting work of art that embodies her ideas and activism. The project is a call to action for urgent environmental change, beautifully translated into print by Red Breast Editions.
