US Sanctions on Iran for Drone Production
Acting in response to Iran’s attack on Israel on April 13, the United States has imposed sanctions on individuals and entities involved in aiding Iran’s drone production. This move was announced by the Department of the Treasury.
Background
The decision to impose sanctions comes shortly after the White House stated that President Joe Biden and US allies would consider imposing sanctions on Iran. Tensions between Iran and Israel escalated following an attack on Tehran’s consulate in Syria.
Details of the Sanctions
The sanctions target a total of 16 individuals and two entities that are facilitating Iran’s UAV production. This includes engine types that are used in Iran’s Shahed variant UAVs, which were deployed in the April 13 attack.
