Recent developments in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine have led to a demand for extradition from Russia to Ukraine.
Russia’s Demand
Russia has demanded that Ukraine hand over its head of the SBU Security Service, Vasyl Maliuk, along with other individuals linked to terrorist activities carried out in Russia since the invasion in February 2022.
- The Russian Foreign Ministry highlighted violent incidents in Russia and claimed that the traces of these crimes lead to Ukraine.
- The demands include immediate arrest and extradition of those connected to the terrorist acts, cessation of support for terrorist activities, and compensation for the victims.
Response from SBU
The SBU responded by dismissing the demands as “pointless” and calling Russia a “terrorist state.”
- The SBU emphasized that the demands were cynical and hypocritical coming from Russia.
- It referenced an international arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin and stated that the tribunal in The Hague is waiting for him in connection with alleged war crimes.
