UK Summons Russian Ambassador Over Alleged Involvement of Two Brits in Suspected Arson Attack

Britain Summons Russian Ambassador Over Allegations of Malign Activity

Britain’s foreign ministry summoned Russia’s ambassador to London after two British men were charged with assisting Russian intelligence services following a suspected arson attack on a Ukrainian-linked commercial property in London.

Reason for Summoning

Britain’s foreign office stated that it summoned Russia’s ambassador in London over accusations that Moscow orchestrated malign activity on United Kingdom soil. The UK expressed deep concerns about the reported pattern of behavior by the Russian Federation.

Response from UK Officials

Foreign Minister David Cameron expressed deep concern over the allegations and emphasized the commitment to using the criminal justice system to hold accountable anyone involved in crimes linked to foreign interference.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

In a statement, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorized the Metropolitan Police to charge a British man with conducting hostile activity in the UK to benefit Russia. Dylan Earl and Jake Reeves were under investigation in connection with a fire on an industrial estate in London.

Legal Actions Taken

  • 20-year-old Dylan Earl was accused of recruiting others for an arson attack and appeared in court on charges related to activities likely to benefit Russia.
  • Paul English, Nii Mensah, and Jake Reeves faced charges of aggravated arson and accepting benefits from a foreign intelligence service.
  • Dmitrijus Paulauska, the fifth person linked to the case, was charged with having information about terrorist acts.

All five suspects are expected to appear in court at the Old Bailey on May 10 for further legal proceedings.
