Search Operation Underway for Missing Indians in Taiwan Earthquake
As the search and rescue operation continues in the aftermath of the massive earthquake that struck Taiwan, two Indian nationals have been reported missing. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.2, shook Taiwan, leaving a death toll of nine and over 1,000 reported injuries.
Details of the Missing Indians
The missing Indians, a man and a woman, were last seen at Taroko Gorge near Hualien County, close to the earthquake’s epicenter. Taiwan’s fire department confirmed that 1,038 people were injured and 52 individuals were reported missing.
Search and Rescue Efforts
A search operation is currently underway to locate the missing Indians. Drones and helicopters are being utilized to search the gorge, and supplies will be provided to those found. So far, 70 people, including two Germans, have been evacuated from tunnels near Hualien city.
Indian Government’s Response
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences for the tragedy, offering support to Taiwan during this challenging time. The India Taipei Association has set up an emergency helpline for Indian nationals in Taiwan for assistance and guidance.

Both outgoing Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen and President-elect Lai Ching-te thanked PM Modi for his support and solidarity during the recovery process.
