Trump campaign criticizes Cannes film ‘The Apprentice’ as ‘pure fiction’

Trump Campaign’s Response to “The Apprentice” Film

Trump’s chief spokesperson Steven Cheung criticized the movie directed by Ali Abbasi and starring Sebastian Stan as Trump, calling it “garbage” and “pure fiction.” Cheung emphasized that the film sensationalizes “lies that have been long debunked.”

Strong Opposition from Trump Campaign

The Trump campaign has strongly opposed “The Apprentice,” a film that shocked audiences at Cannes with its portrayal of former US President Donald Trump raping his first wife, Ivana Trump. A spokesperson for the campaign confirmed that the Republican plans to sue “to address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers.”

Trump Campaign’s Stand

In a conversation with Variety following the film’s premiere, Steven Cheung criticized the movie, labeling it as “pure malicious defamation” that should not be given any credibility. He expressed strong disapproval of the film’s content and its portrayal of events.

Cheung also mentioned that the film received an eight-minute standing ovation at Cannes, despite its controversial scenes depicting Trump undergoing surgeries and the alleged rape of Ivana Trump.

Controversial Scene and Historical Context

The most controversial scene in the film is the dramatized version of an incident from the couple’s 1990 divorce proceedings, where Ivana Trump initially described the 1989 incident as a rape. However, she later clarified that while she felt violated, she did not intend to imply a criminal act.

These events have sparked intense reactions and debates surrounding the portrayal of real-life incidents in a fictionalized manner.
