The three women, originally from Borsad tehsil in Gujarat’s Anand district and living in Georgia, were the victims of the tragic incident.
Details of the Accident
Deputy Coroner Mike Ellis mentioned that the SUV was traveling at a high speed, evident from its trajectory off the road, collision with a cement bridge, and subsequent impact with trees. The vehicle crossed all lanes of the interstate, soared over an embankment, and landed approximately 20 feet above the ground before crashing into trees.
Ellis described the scene as rare, stating, “Very seldom do you see a vehicle that leaves the roadway at such a high rate of speed that it jumps 4-6 lanes of traffic and lands in the trees approximately 20 feet.”
Response and Investigation
Emergency responders, including the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Greenville County EMS units, and Gannt Fire and Rescue, quickly arrived at the scene. The fourth occupant of the vehicle, who was driving, sustained injuries and was hospitalized. The vehicle’s detection system alerted family members, who then informed local authorities about the tragic incident.
Ellis emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “When you have family, probably related, three deceased, it is nothing that you want to ever see.” The coroner’s office, along with other agencies, is actively investigating the speed at which the car was traveling before the crash. Ellis revealed that the vehicle was found in pieces post-accident and clarified that no other vehicles were involved.
