Tiger Woods to Compete at US Open After Accepting Special Exemption
Tiger Woods is set to compete at the US Open in June after accepting a special exemption from the US Golf Association. Woods, a three-time winner of the tournament, last claimed victory in 2008.
Exemption Acceptance
Woods no longer qualifies automatically for the US Open after his five-year exemption, earned following his 2019 Masters win, expired earlier this year. Despite his limited tournament appearances this year, including a 60th place finish at the recent Masters, Woods expressed his excitement for the upcoming challenge.
Statement from Tiger Woods
In a statement, Woods emphasized the significance of the US Open in his career, stating, “The US Open, our national championship, is a truly special event for our game and one that has helped define my career. I’m honored to receive this exemption and could not be more excited for the opportunity to compete in this year’s US Open, especially at Pinehurst, a venue that means so much to the game.”
Event Details
The US Open is scheduled to take place at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club in North Carolina from June 13-16.
