The ‘Suicide Squad’ of the Baloch Liberation Army: Exploring the Majeed Brigade

The Majeed Brigade: A Closer Look at Balochistan Liberation Army’s ‘Suicide Squad’

The Majeed Brigade, a faction of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), has gained notoriety as the group’s ‘suicide squad’. This group has been involved in a series of violent activities targeting various entities in the region.

Origins of the Majeed Brigade

The brigade is named after two brothers, Majeed Langove Senior and Majeed Langove Junior, who were key figures in separate suicide attacks on the Pakistani army over the years. These attacks have played a significant role in shaping the group’s history and operations.

Recent Attack on PNS Siddique

A recent attack on Pakistan’s naval base PNS Siddique in Balochistan resulted in the death of a paramilitary soldier from the Balochistan Frontier Corps and four militants belonging to the Majeed Brigade. This incident has once again highlighted the ongoing separatist movements in Balochistan.

Targets and Operations

The Majeed Brigade’s violent activities began with its first reported suicide attack in 2011. Since then, the group has targeted various individuals and locations, including Chinese engineers, the Chinese Consulate in Karachi, and the Pakistan Stock Exchange.

Strength and Tactics

While the BLA as a whole is estimated to have a larger number of fighters, the Majeed Brigade remains a smaller and more exclusive faction with around 100 to 150 members. Equipped with a range of weaponry, including explosives and firearms, the brigade’s arsenal reflects its deadly capabilities.

Operational Procedures

The Majeed Brigade follows a distinct operational procedure, allowing its suicide bombers certain liberties and responsibilities. Bombers have the opportunity to interact with their families before missions and are involved in target selection and planning, with the option to withdraw from the mission if needed.
