On May 2, Londoners will head to the polls to elect a new mayor and 25 members of the London Assembly. This election sees Indian-origin candidate Tarun Ghulati challenging the incumbent two-time winner, Sadiq Khan.
Meet Tarun Ghulati
Delhi-born Tarun Ghulati, aged 63, is one of the 13 candidates vying for the mayoral position. With an MBA from Delhi University, Ghulati has a background in investment banking and business. He has extensive international experience, having lived and worked across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and the UK. Ghulati has held managerial positions at Citibank and HSBC, and currently serves as the CEO and President of Squared Watermelon Ltd in London. He is also a prominent figure in the Asian business community, having been a committee member and former Deputy Chairman of the Asian Business Association at the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Additionally, Ghulati is a Strategic Advisory Committee Member of the Global Cyber Alliance with United Nations ECOSOC Special Consultative Status.

Ghulati’s policy platform includes a commitment to revising certain aspects of Sadiq Khan’s administration, particularly addressing concerns around the high costs associated with initiatives like the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) charges and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) in London.
