Former Home Secretary Criticizes Conservative Party
Former home secretary Suella Braverman criticized the Conservative Party’s performance, urging Rishi Sunak to address failures or risk further losses.
Labour Party Expected to Take Power
After local election results showed that the UK is headed for a Labour government, former home secretary Suella Braverman stated that the Conservatives had run out of time to oust Rishi Sunak but that he needed to “own this and fix it.”
Conservative Party Faces Significant Losses
The Labour Party is expected to retake power in the UK after 14 years, as the current Conservative Party of Britain suffered significant losses in local election results on Friday, May 3.
Sunak’s Strategy Criticized
Sunak’s “plan is not working,” according to Braverman, and the prime minister must alter his strategy because “at this rate we will be lucky to have any Conservative MPs at the next election.”
Braverman’s Critique of Sunak
- Conservative voters were “on strike” due to Sunak’s policies
- Advocated for action on the European Court of Human Rights
- Called for a limit on legal migration and greater tax cuts
Call for Change in Leadership
“I’m urging the prime minister to change course, to with humility reflect on what voters are telling us and change the plan and the way that he’s communicating and leading us,” Braverman stated on BBC One’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.
Braverman’s Stance on Sunak’s Removal
When asked why he should not be removed since the situation was so bad, she replied, “Listen, I just don’t think that is a feasible prospect, we don’t have enough time and it’s impossible for anyone new to change our fortunes. There’s no superman or superwoman out there. Rishi Sunak has been leading us for 18 months. These are consequences of his decisions. He needs to own this and therefore he needs to fix it.”
Allegations of Plot Against Sunak
When asked whether or not she had participated in a plot against Sunak, Braverman replied that many of her peers were “privately demoralised.”
