Sergio Perez survives dramatic crash at Monaco Grand Prix

Sergio Perez’s Crash at Monaco Grand Prix

Sergio Perez was involved in a staggering crash on the opening lap of the Monaco Grand Prix, fortunately walking away unharmed from the incident. The 78-lap race was red-flagged immediately after Perez’s Red Bull collided with the barrier while navigating the hill from Sainte Devote.

Details of the Incident

  • The impact resulted in the destruction of Perez’s Red Bull, with three out of four wheels being torn off the car.
  • Debris was scattered across the street track where the crash occurred.
  • The collision was triggered when Kevin Magnussen’s front-left wheel made contact with the rear-right of Perez’s car.

Kevin Magnussen, the driver of the Haas team, expressed his frustration at the incident, stating that he felt he should have been given more space by Perez. Magnussen, who already had 10 penalty points, potentially facing a ban with further punishment, shared his perspective on the crash.

Statements from Kevin Magnussen

“I just got pushed into the wall and made contact with him,” said Magnussen in an interview with Sky Sports F1. “I trusted he was going to leave a space for me since I was there. You have to have a car width; otherwise, you leave the guy no option. It is unfortunate, a lot of cost for the team, a lot of work for the guys, and a missed opportunity today.”

Magnussen expressed uncertainty about how the incident would be reviewed, emphasizing that from his viewpoint, he was squeezed against the wall. The aftermath of the crash raised questions about the circumstances leading to the collision and the responsibilities of the drivers involved.
