Scottie Scheffler’s Police Charges Dropped After US PGA Arrest

Scottie Scheffler’s Legal Victory

All criminal charges against Scottie Scheffler have been dismissed, marking the end of a tumultuous period for the world number one golfer.

The Incident

Scheffler’s bid to win the US PGA Championship was marred by an incident on May 17. He was arrested before his second round at Valhalla Golf Club due to heavy traffic caused by an unrelated accident that resulted in a pedestrian fatality.

The Charges

Scheffler faced charges including second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals. However, all charges have now been dismissed.

The Legal Proceedings

Jefferson county attorney Mike O’Connell stated that the evidence did not support moving forward with the prosecution. The court accepted a motion to dismiss all charges against Scheffler with prejudice.

Legal Statements

Attorney Mike O’Connell emphasized that the incident was a ‘big misunderstanding’ and did not constitute criminal behavior. Scheffler’s lawyer, Steve Romines, had also expressed confidence that the charges would be dropped.

Outcome and Response

Following his release, Scheffler resumed playing in the US PGA Championship. Despite a commendable performance, he finished in eighth place, seven shots behind the winner, Xander Schauffele.

Law Enforcement’s Response

The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department acknowledged the County Attorney’s decision and reiterated their commitment to serving the city and combating crime.
