Saudi King Salman’s Health Update
King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the reigning King of Saudi Arabia, is currently receiving treatment for lung inflammation at Al Salam Palace in Jeddah. The 88-year-old monarch underwent medical tests on Sunday, which revealed a lung infection. He will be administered antibiotics until his condition improves.
Health Situation
King Salman’s health situation has led to the postponement of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to Japan. The crown prince had planned the trip from May 20-23 to hold discussions with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and Emperor Naruhito.
Previous Hospitalizations
In May 2022, King Salman was hospitalized for a colonoscopy, where he stayed for over a week for further tests. In 2017, there were speculations about his abdication in favor of Prince Mohammed, but Riyadh dismissed them.
The health of the monarch is not often publicly discussed, and updates are provided by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
Before ascending the throne in 2015, King Salman served as the governor of Riyadh and later as the defense minister.
