Russian Food Influencer Jailed for Feeding Newborn Son Only Sunlight

Maxim Lyutyi Jailed for Starving Son on “Sunshine Diet”

A Russian influencer, Maxim Lyutyi, known for promoting a raw food diet on social media, has been sentenced to eight years in a penal colony for starving his son by putting him on a controversial “sunshine diet”.

Details of the Case

  • Lyutyi wanted his son to be like Superman but tragically, the child died of pneumonia and emaciation.
  • The court found Lyutyi guilty of intentionally subjecting his newborn to a strict diet devoid of proper nutrition, compelling the child to rely solely on sunlight for sustenance.
  • He was convicted of inflicting grievous bodily harm on his son.

Actions of the Influencer

The court revealed that Lyutyi not only prevented his partner from breastfeeding their child but also subjected the baby to extreme practices such as dousing him in cold water to “harden him”.

Allegations and Consequences

  • Lyutyi’s partner, Oxsana Mironova, claimed she suffered from iron deficiency due to the influencer’s diet recommendations, which impacted the child’s health.
  • Lawyer Alexey Avanesyan highlighted the risks associated with the vegan lifestyle and iron deficiency anaemia during pregnancy.

Final Statements

In his closing statements, Lyutyi expressed remorse for his son’s death, attributing it to negligence rather than intent. He emphasized his love for his child and attempted to shift blame onto his partner.
