Ukraine denies involvement in Moscow terror attack
Ukraine has denied any involvement in the terror attack which took place at a concert hall in Moscow. Russia has accused the US of withholding intelligence regarding the ‘involvement’ of Ukraine in the deadly terror attack in Moscow.
Russia’s Accusations
This came after the White House on Friday (Mar 22) said it had no initial indication that Ukraine, which is fighting an invasion by Russia, was involved in a “terrible” attack on a concert hall in Moscow. Maria Zakharova, a spokesperson for the Russian foreign ministry, questioned the basis of Washington’s conclusions and demanded any reliable information to be shared with Russia.
Ukraine’s Denial
Ukraine had earlier clarified that it had no role in Friday’s attack. Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak emphasized that the nation is engaged in a war with the Russian regular army and the Russian Federation, distancing themselves from the incident.
US Stance
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stated that there is no indication of Ukrainian involvement in the Moscow terror attack. He mentioned that the US is actively gathering information on the incident and expressed condolences for the victims.
The Attack
Some unidentified gunmen opened fire at a crowd gathered at the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk near Moscow, resulting in at least 93 deaths and 140 injuries. The shooting occurred during a concert by the Russian rock group Piknik, with the Islamic State claiming responsibility for the attack.
