Son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi and Fifth Generation Member of Gandhi-Nehru Family
Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of Sonia Gandhi, belongs to the politically influential Gandhi-Nehru family in India.
Potential Candidature in Lok Sabha Elections 2024
Recently, there has been speculation about Robert Vadra’s potential candidature in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Reaction to Congress Party’s Resolution
After the Congress party’s resolution for candidature from the Gandhi family in Amethi and Raebareli seats, Robert Vadra expressed his thoughts on entering the electoral race.
- Vadra’s mother-in-law, Sonia Gandhi, has decided not to contest from Raebareli, a constituency she represented since 2004.
- His brother-in-law, Rahul Gandhi, has filed his candidature from Wayanad, shifting focus from Amethi where he lost to the BJP in 2019.
Vadra mentioned, “The people of Amethi expect me to represent their constituency if I decide to become a member of Parliament.”
Role and Support
While Vadra does not hold a formal role in the Congress party, he expressed his willingness to enter politics once his wife, Priyanka Gandhi, becomes an MP.
Vadra stated, “I interact with people from different parties who encourage me to join politics. I have friendships across party lines.”
BJP’s Response
Following Vadra’s comments, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa criticized the Congress for continuing dynastic politics and nepotism.
Sirsa remarked, “They (Congress) cannot come out of dynastic politics. These people have ruined the country because of nepotism and still do not want to change themselves.”
