Richarlison Struggled with Depression After World Cup, Considered Giving Up

Richarlison’s Struggle with Depression Post-2022 World Cup

Brazil and Tottenham forward Richarlison recently revealed his battle with depression following the 2022 World Cup. Despite being his country’s top scorer in Qatar, with three goals in four games, the 26-year-old faced mental challenges after the tournament.

Seeking Help and Finding Hope

Richarlison shared that he sought help from a psychologist, a decision that he believes saved his life. Reflecting on his experience, he expressed, “I was in a depression there, and I wanted to give up. Even I, who seemed to be mentally strong, felt like it all fell apart after the World Cup.”

  • He admitted to only searching for negative content online and feeling overwhelmed by negative thoughts.
  • Richarlison emphasized the importance of seeking therapy and opening up to others about mental health struggles.

Overcoming Prejudices and Embracing Therapy

Initially skeptical about therapy, Richarlison now encourages others to consider seeking professional help. He stated, “Today I can say, look for a psychologist, if you need one, because it’s nice for you to open up like that, for you to be talking to the person.”

  • He acknowledged his previous prejudices towards therapy and highlighted the positive impact it had on his life.
  • Richarlison emphasized that therapy is not a sign of weakness but a crucial step towards mental well-being.

Richarlison’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and seeking help when needed.
