Death in Paradise, the popular BBC crime drama, has announced the replacement for Ralf Little’s departure as the lead detective.
Meet Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson
Don Gilet, known for his role as Lucas Johnson in EastEnders, will be taking on the role of Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson. Wilson arrives on the picturesque island of Saint Marie from London, bringing a new dynamic to the show.
New Series and Christmas Special
Detective Wilson will make his debut in a feature-length Christmas episode later this year, followed by a brand-new series in 2025. Filming has already begun in Guadeloupe with the returning cast members.
Don Gilet’s Excitement
Don Gilet, aged 57, expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands.”
He added, “This is a big show, with a big heart, and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled, and dedicated.”
Previous Appearance on Saint Marie
This is not Don Gilet’s first time on the fictional island of Saint Marie. He previously made a guest appearance in a series four episode of Death in Paradise.
Ralf Little’s Departure
Ralf Little, who portrayed DI Neville Parker, bid farewell to the show in a recent episode. The departure marked the end of his tenure as the longest-serving detective inspector on the series.
