Death in Paradise Introduces New Lead Detective
Death in Paradise has revealed the new lead detective for the BBC crime drama following Ralf Little’s departure. Don Gilet, known for his role as Lucas Johnson in EastEnders, will take on the role of Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson.
Character Introduction
DI Wilson, arriving from London to the serene island of Saint Marie, is portrayed as someone not entirely thrilled with his new environment. His debut will be in a feature-length Christmas episode this year, followed by a new series in 2025.
Cast and Filming
Don Gilet, aged 57, has commenced filming in Guadeloupe alongside returning cast members Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, Élizabeth Bourgine, and Danny John-Jules.
Don Gilet’s Statement
Expressing his excitement for the role, Gilet mentioned, “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands.”
“This is a big show, with a big heart, and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled, and dedicated.”
Previous Involvement
This is not Gilet’s first appearance on Saint Marie, as he guest-starred in a previous episode. Ralf Little’s final appearance as DI Neville Parker was in March, marking the end of his tenure on the show.
Series Legacy
Death in Paradise, a fan favorite since its debut in 2011, has seen several male leads over its thirteen series. The show is available for streaming on BBC iPlayer.
