Michael Ball to Replace Steve Wright on BBC Radio 2

BBC Radio 2 has announced that singer Michael Ball will be taking over the beloved host Steve Wright’s slot on the station. Ball will present Love Songs with Michael Ball from 9 to 11am starting in June.

Michael Ball’s Statement

In a statement released by the station, Ball expressed his excitement and nervousness about continuing Wright’s legacy. He mentioned his plans to include beautiful, moving, and uplifting music on the show, along with stories and memories from the listeners.

Ball, known for his contributions to musical theatre and his successful recording career, has been a familiar face on BBC Radio 2 since 2005.

Paddy McGuinness to Host New Sunday Show

Additionally, BBC Radio 2 announced that Paddy McGuinness will host a new Sunday show from 11am-1pm starting in June, as Ball moves to Wright’s previous time slot.

McGuinness, known for his work on Top Gear and other TV shows, expressed his excitement at having his own regular show on the legendary Radio 2.

Reaction to Steve Wright’s Passing

Following Steve Wright’s death, there has been an outpouring of love and grief from fans and colleagues. Some have attributed his decline in health to his removal from the long-running Radio 2 afternoon show.

Celebrity PR Gary Farrow suggested that Wright may have died from a broken heart after being replaced on the show. Colleagues, including Nicki Chapman, have shared emotional tributes to Wright on air.
