Pro-Palestinian Protests in the US
Chaos erupted at a pro-Palestinian rally in Brooklyn’s Bay Ridge neighborhood where a group of at least 250 people were protesting the Israeli military’s offensive in Gaza. The clash between protesters and the New York Police Department (NYPD) officers led to over 30 arrests.
Clashes in Brooklyn
In videos posted on social media, NYPD officers were seen wrestling and punching at least three individuals to the ground. Police attempted to move protesters towards the sidewalk, leading to further confrontation.
Massive Police Presence
The New York Post reported a significant police presence in the neighborhood, with demonstrators chanting about the NYPD’s spending on Palestine protests. At least 34 people were arrested, as per a report by the New York Times.
University of Pennsylvania Incident
At the University of Pennsylvania, six students were among 19 pro-Palestinian protesters arrested during an attempt to occupy a school building. The protesters were escorted out by police, who found lock-picking tools and makeshift shields inside the building.
Protests at La Trobe University
Students at La Trobe University in Australia reported that college authorities are cracking down on pro-Palestine encampments. The University of Melbourne also saw protests, with students camping inside a building and renaming it to honor a Palestinian student.
