Solar Eclipse to Grace the Skies
Sky gazers will have the chance to witness a captivating celestial event as a solar eclipse is set to occur on Monday evening. The moon will pass in front of the sun at approximately 7.55pm, temporarily obscuring a significant portion of its light.
Rare Event in Ireland
This rare phenomenon has not been observed in Ireland so far this century, with the last occurrence dating back to 1999. While the full eclipse will be visible from regions in the US, Canada, and Mexico, viewers in Ireland will experience a partial eclipse.
What to Expect
Dave Moore from Astronomy Ireland provided insights into what observers can anticipate. According to Mr. Moore, the event will manifest as partial eclipses, where a section of the sun will be obscured by the moon. Although the spectacle may not result in a complete darkness akin to nightfall, viewers will witness a portion of the sun being obscured, resembling a ‘bite’ taken out of the sun.
Mr. Moore further explained that the visibility of the eclipse will vary based on location. For instance, individuals situated on the east coast will observe the sun setting earlier than those on the west coast, resulting in a more pronounced view for western viewers.
