New Cabinet Announced by Palestinian Authority PM, Urges Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

The Palestinian Authority Announces Formation of New Cabinet

The Palestinian Authority has announced the formation of a new cabinet, with President Mahmoud Abbas retaining overall control. The newly appointed Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa has formed a new cabinet, in which he will also serve as the foreign minister.

Newly Appointed Palestinian Prime Minister

Prime Minister Mustafa called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas. President Abbas approved the new government presented by the PM, which is set to take office on Sunday (Mar 31).

Palestinian Authority’s Priorities

Mustafa stated that the new government’s top priority is to end the war in Gaza, including a complete Israeli withdrawal from the enclave. The cabinet aims to reunify institutions and take responsibility for Gaza, with a focus on rebuilding the region.

Cabinet Members

The cabinet includes financial expert Omar al-Bitar as finance minister, Muhamad al Amour as economy minister, and Ziad Hab al-Reeh as interior minister. At least five of the 23 incoming ministers are from Gaza, with plans for a state minister for relief affairs.

International Calls for Reform

Mustafa’s appointment as PM faced criticism from Hamas, with international efforts to reconcile Hamas and Fatah continuing. The United States has called for PA reform to administer post-war Gaza, while Israel maintains security control over the region.
