Moscow Concert Hall Attack: Death Toll Likely Underreported, 143 Missing

Overview of the Moscow Terror Attack

In a recent statement, Russian state investigations revealed alarming details about the aftermath of the tragic mass shooting that took place in Moscow. The death toll is feared to be higher than initially reported, with 143 individuals reported missing following the incident.

Victims Identified

The Investigative Committee has identified 84 bodies, including five children aged nine to 16. Efforts are underway to identify the remaining victims through various tests and procedures.

Missing Persons Report

A Telegram channel linked to Russia’s security services reported that 95 individuals missing after the shooting were not listed in the official registry of victims. Families have been unable to contact these individuals since the attack, sparking concerns and efforts to locate them through social media.

Challenges in Identification

Many victims are believed to have succumbed to smoke inhalation as the attackers set the building on fire, leading to the collapse of the roof. This has made some bodies unrecognizable, with only fragments remaining in certain cases.

Responsibility for the Attack

The Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the attack, marking it as the deadliest on European soil by the group. However, Russian officials have hinted at blaming Ukraine and Western powers for the incident, despite evidence linking the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) to the attack.

Official Statements

Key Russian officials, including Alexander Bortnikov and Nikolai Patrushev, have accused Ukraine, the US, and Britain of involvement in the attack. However, these claims lack substantial evidence, with Ukraine denying any role in the tragic event.
