Homeless Asylum Seekers Moved from Tents Along Dublin’s Grand Canal
Homeless asylum seekers who were sleeping in tents along Dublin’s Grand Canal have been relocated to accommodation centers, according to Transport Minister and Green Party leader Eamon Ryan.
Reasons for Relocation
Ryan clarified that the move was not related to the Europa League final between Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen, which is scheduled to take place at the Aviva Stadium. Instead, the relocation was prompted by the availability of suitable accommodation for the asylum seekers.
Previous Relocations
This relocation marks the fourth time that asylum seekers sleeping in tents have been moved from different parts of Dublin city in recent months. Previous relocations occurred at Mount Street and the Grand Canal.
Government’s Response
Speaking about the relocation, Ryan emphasized the importance of providing safe and secure accommodation for those in need. He mentioned that the asylum seekers were informed about the available accommodation options and were being moved to various centers for their well-being.
Ensuring Safety
Ryan highlighted the government’s commitment to preventing makeshift camps for safety reasons, stating that it is crucial to offer proper protection to individuals seeking refuge in Ireland.
