Nicole Kidman to Receive AFI Life Achievement Award
Hollywood stars such as Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Naomi Watts, and Reese Witherspoon will come together to honor Nicole Kidman as she is presented with the prestigious Life Achievement Award by the American Film Institute (AFI).
About the Award
Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman will be the 49th recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor for a career in film bestowed by the AFI. She will be the first Australian actor to receive this accolade, joining the ranks of esteemed past recipients like Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Robert De Niro.
Ceremony Details
The award ceremony, originally scheduled for June 10 last year, was postponed due to the writers’ strike and will now take place on April 27 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Meryl Streep, who received the award in 2004, will be presenting it to Kidman.
Presenter Line-Up
Joining Streep as presenters during the ceremony are Morgan Freeman, Reese Witherspoon, and Naomi Watts. Freeman, known for his role in “Million Dollar Baby,” Witherspoon for her performance in “Walk The Line,” and Watts for her role in “The Impossible.”
A True Screen Icon
AFI president and chief executive Bob Gazzale praised Kidman, highlighting her embodiment of Hollywood glamour and romance, as well as her commitment to pushing boundaries and amplifying the voices of female filmmakers.
Award-Winning Career
Nicole Kidman, a five-time Academy Award nominee, won the Best Actress Oscar in 2003 for her role in “The Hours.” She has also received numerous other accolades, including a BAFTA, two Emmys, and six Golden Globe Awards.
In 2006, Kidman was honored with Australia’s Companion of the Order of Australia. She was also awarded the 70th Anniversary Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017, recognizing her significant contributions to the film industry.
Philanthropic Work
Aside from her acting career, Kidman has dedicated herself to philanthropy, serving as a Goodwill Ambassador for UN Women for nearly two decades and raising millions of dollars for the Stanford Women’s Cancer Programme alongside her husband, Keith Urban.
