Man Makes History by Running Full Length of Africa

Man from England Completes Historic Run Across Africa

A man from England has achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first person to run the full length of Africa. Russ Cook, also known as Hardest Geezer, completed this extraordinary journey in Tunisia, covering over 16,000km, taking more than 19 million steps, and passing through 16 countries while raising funds for charity.

The Journey

  • Russ Cook embarked on this monumental challenge from South Africa’s most southerly point on April 22nd, 2023.
  • Despite facing visa issues, health concerns, and even an armed robbery, he persevered to make history.
  • After 352 days of relentless determination, he reached Ras Angela, Tunisia’s northernmost point, to a warm reception from supporters.

Celebrating the Achievement

For the final leg of his journey, Mr. Cook invited his supporters to join him in running the last marathon in Tunisia, with many flying in from various parts of the world to participate.

To mark this incredible accomplishment, a finish line party featuring a performance by the British punk rock duo Soft Play (formerly Slaves) will be held at a hotel in Bizerte, Tunisia.

Charitable Contributions

Throughout his venture, known as Project Africa, Russ Cook has raised over £600,000 for two charities: the Running Charity and Sandblast, which raises awareness for the indigenous Saharawi people of western Sahara.

Reflecting on the Journey

Despite the challenges faced, Mr. Cook expressed gratitude for the experiences and the kindness shown by people across the continent. He encouraged others to pursue their own adventures and thanked the people of Africa for being a significant part of his remarkable journey.
