Louise Thompson Opens Up About Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Following Near-Death Experience During Childbirth

Louise Thompson’s Struggle with PTSD After Traumatic Childbirth

Louise Thompson, known for her role in Made In Chelsea, recently opened up about her battle with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following a harrowing childbirth experience. She described experiencing episodes where she would be paralyzed and screaming in bed, feeling completely helpless and terrified.

The Traumatic Birth of Son Leo

Thompson’s traumatic childbirth occurred in November 2021 when she nearly lost her life delivering her son, Leo. She had to undergo an emergency caesarean section due to complications during labor, which led to a significant loss of blood and a harrowing experience witnessing her son stop breathing during the procedure.

The Impact of PTSD on Thompson’s Mental Health

The PTSD episodes continue to affect Thompson, leaving her unable to move or speak for extended periods. She vividly recalls moments where she believed she wouldn’t survive, even writing goodbye letters to her loved ones. The mental toll of the experience has been profound, with Thompson describing it as the most petrifying time of her life.

Challenges and Recovery

Thompson’s journey to recovery has been marked by physical and mental challenges. She faced a second major hemorrhage at home, which required extensive medical intervention. The experience left her with lasting health issues, including complications related to her ulcerative colitis and the autoimmune condition lupus.

Despite the difficulties, Thompson is determined to raise awareness about the importance of listening to women’s concerns during pregnancy and childbirth. She emphasizes the need for better support and understanding for women who may face challenges during the birthing process.

Looking Towards the Future

As she continues her recovery journey, Thompson is focused on regaining her physical and mental well-being. She is determined to prevent others from experiencing similar traumas and is committed to advocating for better care and support for women during childbirth.
