Lorraine Kelly’s Awkward Question to David Walliams About His BGT Exit

David Walliams Addresses Britain’s Got Talent Exit

David Walliams faced questions about his departure from Britain’s Got Talent during a recent interview with Lorraine Kelly. The conversation took an unexpected turn as Lorraine inquired about Walliams’ thoughts on the latest season of BGT and his feelings about his exit from the show.

Walliams’ Response

Walliams, 52, appeared momentarily surprised by the question but smoothly transitioned to discussing his current projects. He mentioned that due to his extensive travels, he hadn’t been able to keep up with the show. Instead, he expressed his enjoyment of the extra time he had for creative pursuits, focusing on his writing and upcoming ventures.

Public Reaction

While Walliams avoided delving into the controversy surrounding his departure, fans took note of the exchange. Some viewers praised his tactful response, with one user even suggesting that Walliams would excel in politics.

  • User @Suzy_H14 tweeted: “David Walliams trying to be diplomatic about #BGT #Lorraine.”
  • User @TheBettingZone1 sarcastically posted: “Walliams not bitter at all about BGT #Lorraine.”
  • User @BevMaccas commented: “David Walliams would make an excellent politician.”

Previous Controversy

Last year, Walliams was removed from BGT and replaced by Bruno Tonioli following leaked recordings containing disparaging remarks about contestants. Walliams later issued an apology for his comments, acknowledging their disrespectful nature and expressing regret for any harm caused.

Legal Action and Resolution

Walliams pursued legal action against FremantleMedia for a data protection breach related to the leaked transcripts. The case was resolved with an apology from the production company and an agreement for ‘significant damages’ to be paid to Walliams.

A spokesperson for Fremantle expressed regret over the publication of Walliams’ private conversations and outlined steps taken to uphold talent expectations while meeting show requirements.

Lorraine airs on weekdays at 9am on ITV1 and ITVX.
