Juventus Reviewing Arbitration Decision
Juventus is currently in the process of reviewing a decision made by an arbitration court regarding the payment of owed wages to former striker Cristiano Ronaldo. The Serie A side has been ordered to pay approximately €9.8 million to Ronaldo, who now plays for Saudi side Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo’s Claim
Ronaldo claimed that he was owed around €19.5 million in outstanding wages by Juventus, which was related to a pay cut that was agreed upon during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Arbitration Board’s Ruling
The arbitration board confirmed the validity of Ronaldo’s compensation reduction agreement for the 2020/21 sporting season. They ruled that Juventus had to pay half of the sum requested by the 39-year-old Portugal striker.
“The arbitration tribunal partially granted the request made by Ronaldo, establishing Juventus’ pre-contractual liability due to failed negotiations. As a result, the defendant has been ordered to pay an amount of approximately €9.8 million,” Juventus stated.
Juventus Response
Following the arbitration board’s decision, Juventus, along with its legal counsel, is currently reviewing the ruling. They are considering all assessments and initiatives to protect their rights in this matter.
Ronaldo’s Juventus Stint
Ronaldo joined Juventus in August 2018 and played a key role in the team’s success, helping them secure two consecutive Serie A titles, an Italian Cup, and two Super Cups. He later left Italy to rejoin Manchester United in 2021.
