Republic of Ireland Interim Head Coach for June Friendlies
Interim head coach John O’Shea will continue leading the Republic of Ireland in the upcoming June friendlies against Hungary and Portugal. The 42-year-old took over temporarily from Stephen Kenny and guided the team to a goalless draw against Belgium and a 1-0 loss to Switzerland last month.
Upcoming Matches
Ireland will first host Hungary on Tuesday, June 4th at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin. They will then travel to Aveiro to face Portugal a week later.
Future Plans
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) aims to appoint a permanent successor to Kenny before the team’s 2024–25 UEFA Nations League campaign kicks off on September 7th against England.
Coach’s Statement
John O’Shea, who earned 118 caps for his country, expressed his excitement about leading the team in the upcoming matches. He mentioned being pleased with the players’ performance in March and looks forward to building on the positives while aiming for a win in June.
Coaching Team
Assistant coaches Paddy McCarthy and Glenn Whelan, along with goalkeeping coach Rene Gilmartin, will retain their positions for the upcoming fixtures. However, technical advisor Brian Kerr will not be part of the team due to prior commitments.
FAI director of football Marc Canham commended the team’s achievements in the March friendlies and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead in the June fixtures.
