Ruang Volcano Eruption in Indonesia
Indonesia’s Ruang volcano has recently erupted, causing dramatic scenes on the Sangihe Islands in North Sulawesi.
Volcanic Eruption Footage
Footage circulating on social media platforms captured the red lava flowing down the mountain, painting the sky and waters with hues of crimson and gold. Plumes of smoke billowed in the skies as molten fury continued to brew from the crater.
Evacuation and Impact
Close to 800 individuals have been evacuated due to the eruption of the Ruang volcano, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire known for its volcanic activity. The eruptions, occurring multiple times since April 16, have led to the production of lava flows and ash clouds.
The authorities have raised the alert level to the second highest, emphasizing the need for safety measures.
Causes and Warnings
Recent earthquakes triggered the eruptions, emitting dangerous “explosive hot clouds” reaching heights of 1.8 km. Authorities have prohibited any activity within four kilometers from the crater to ensure safety.
Ruang Island and Evacuation
Ruang Island, also known as Pulau Ruang, is a small island in the Riau Islands province, home to around 838 residents. Most evacuations took place on the nearby island of Tagulandang.
Pacific Ring of Fire
Indonesia, situated within the Pacific Ring of Fire, experiences high seismic activity due to the convergence of tectonic plates. The collision and subduction of plates lead to volcanic eruptions.
