India Summons German Embassy Official Over Comments on Arvind Kejriwal’s Arrest
India’s Ministry of External Affairs expressed discontent with Germany’s remarks on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Reason for Summoning George Enzweiler
The Ministry of External Affairs summoned George Enzweiler to address Germany’s comments, considering them as interference in India’s internal matters.
During the meeting at South Block, MEA stated, “We see such remarks as interfering in our judicial process and undermining the independence of our judiciary.”
The German Foreign Ministry expects Kejriwal to receive a fair trial, emphasizing the importance of the presumption of innocence and the rule of law.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Arrest by the Enforcement Directorate
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam case, involving corruption and money laundering.
Following his arrest, Kejriwal was remanded in Enforcement Directorate custody for further interrogation regarding his involvement in the excise policy scandal.
