Iga Swiatek, the world number one from Poland, began her quest for a third consecutive Roland Garros title with an impressive display on Court Philippe Chatrier. She swiftly defeated French wild card Leolia Jeanjean with a score of 6-1 6-2 in just one hour.

Seeking a Historic Achievement

Swiatek aims to make history by becoming the first woman since Justine Henin in 2007 to win three consecutive French Open titles. Her remarkable form in recent clay court tournaments, including victories in Madrid and Rome, has positioned her as a strong contender at Roland Garros.

Comfort on Clay

Expressing her comfort on the clay courts in Paris, Swiatek stated, “it feels like home here.” She looks forward to an extended stay in the tournament, drawing inspiration from her recent successes and adaptability to varying playing conditions.

With a current record of 29 wins out of 31 matches at Roland Garros, Swiatek’s prowess on clay is undeniable, showcasing her potential to join the ranks of legendary players like Rafael Nadal.

Embracing the Journey

When asked about being dubbed the ‘Queen of Clay’, Swiatek humbly responded, “I think it’s too early.” She expressed pride in her achievements and highlighted her admiration for the surface. Swiatek looks up to players like Nadal for lessons on both sportsmanship and skill, emphasizing her continuous growth as a player.
