Frantic Search for Mother and Baby After Signs of Birth Found on Sydney Riverbank

Search Underway for Mother and Newborn Baby in Sydney

Authorities in Sydney are conducting a search for a mother and her newborn baby following a disturbing discovery along the banks of the Cooks River. The search has intensified as concerns grow for the well-being of both the mother and child.

Grim Discovery Sparks Search Efforts

During a routine walk along the Cooks River in Earlwood, a resident made a shocking discovery of a placenta and umbilical cord. Police were immediately alerted and subsequent tests confirmed that the organs were of human origin, prompting a swift response to locate the mother and baby.

Search Operations in Progress

Superintendent Christine McDonald has led the search efforts, with divers combing the water and a specially trained dog deployed to sniff for traces of blood. The search, which began on Monday night, resumed the following morning with a focus on the mangroves and water’s edge.

McDonald emphasized the importance of finding the mother and child swiftly, urging anyone with information to come forward. Residents in specific areas near the riverbank were urged to report any sightings of a distressed woman.

Forensic Examination and Testing

Investigators have sent the placenta and umbilical cord for further testing to determine crucial information such as the baby’s gestational age, gender, and the duration the organs had been at the riverbank. This information is vital in tracing the mother and child.

New South Wales health minister, Ryan Park, expressed sympathy for the mother and child, emphasizing the urgency for the mother to seek medical attention at a hospital.

With the search efforts ongoing, authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in locating the missing mother and newborn baby.
