France Raises Terror Alert to Highest Level Following Moscow Concert Attack

France’s Response to Moscow Attack

In response to the recent shootings in Moscow, France announced on Sunday, March 24, that it will be escalating its terror alert warning to the highest level. Prime Minister Gabriel Attal stated that this decision was made “in light of the Islamic State’s claiming responsibility for the Moscow attack and the threats weighing on our country.”

Security Measures Implemented

Following a meeting with senior security and defence officials, Prime Minister Attal, alongside President Emmanuel Macron, announced the decision to raise the terror alert level. This move allows for heightened security measures to be implemented across the country.

France’s Terror Alert System

France’s terror alert system comprises three levels, with the highest level being activated following an attack in France or abroad, or when there is a perceived imminent threat of an attack. This level enables increased patrols by armed forces in public places like train stations, airports, and religious sites.

Moscow Concert Hall Attack

On the day of the attack, armed men stormed into Crocus City Hall just before the performance of the Soviet-era rock group Picnic. The attackers opened fire, resulting in the death of 137 people, including three children, and injuring 182 others. This incident marked the deadliest attack in Russia in two decades.

Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, although Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of involvement. The suspects involved in the attack have been identified and charged by Russian authorities.

Conclusion

France’s decision to elevate its terror alert level underscores the ongoing threats posed by terrorism. The country remains vigilant in the face of such challenges and is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of its citizens.
