French Government’s Crackdown on Drug Trafficking
The French government has intensified its efforts to combat drug trafficking across the country as part of a broader crackdown on illegal activities.
Anti-Drug Raids and Arrests
French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin recently announced multiple new anti-drug raids, referring to them as “XXL cleanup operations.” Police units carried out raids and made several arrests in cities like Lille, Villeneuve-d’Ascq, and Roubaix.
Upcoming Operations
Darmanin emphasized that more operations were planned in the coming days to significantly impact drug trafficking. The authorities are prepared to intensify their efforts to tackle this issue effectively.
President Macron’s Commitment
During a visit to Marseille, President Emmanuel Macron pledged to conduct 10 similar operations in the near future. He emphasized the need to combat drug-related violence and restore law and order in affected areas.
Operation Results
Approximately 900 police and customs officers were deployed in Marseille and the Bouches-du-Rhone region, leading to the seizure of drugs, cash, and weapons. A total of 71 individuals were taken into custody within the first three days of the operation.
