First Trial in France Against Syrian Regime Officials

The Paris Criminal Court has opened the first trial in France against officials from the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad. Three top security officers are to be tried in absentia for complicity in crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Details of the Trial

  • The trial will focus on the deaths of two French Syrian men, Mazzen Dabbagh and his son Patrick, who were arrested in Damascus in 2013.
  • The Paris Criminal Court will hear cases against the three officials until Friday.
