Overview of Novo Nordisk Office Building Fire Incident
Firefighters successfully controlled a large fire at an office building owned by Novo Nordisk, a Danish pharmaceutical company known for weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy. The incident, initially involving a significant number of firefighters, was brought under control after several hours of intense efforts.
Key Details of the Fire Incident
- The blaze, described as massive, required the deployment of around 100 firefighters initially.
- Fire brigade chief of operations Martin Smith confirmed that the situation was under control after over three hours, with the number of firefighters reduced to about 30.
- All individuals present in the building were safely evacuated, and there were no reported injuries.
- Large plumes of grey smoke were visible from a considerable distance away, but the situation improved as the fire was contained.
Response and Actions Taken
Novo Nordisk issued a statement reassuring the public that the smoke generated by the fire was not toxic. They clarified that the fire originated outside a building at their site in Bagsvaerd and spread to an adjacent office building.
Smith mentioned that the fire started in a container at a construction site belonging to Novo Nordisk and extended to the roof of the nearby office building. Efforts to clear debris and fully extinguish the fire were underway, with the assistance of heavy machinery like bulldozers and cranes.
Despite the controlled situation, firefighters were expected to remain on-site for an additional four to six hours to ensure complete safety and prevent any potential re-ignition.
This incident occurred shortly after a previous fire on May 16 at another Novo Nordisk construction site in Kalundborg, which did not impact the company’s drug production operations.
