Evacuation of Civilians in Kharkiv Region
In response to Russian artillery attacks, more than 1,700 people were evacuated from areas near the Russian border in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. Kharkiv governor Oleg Synegubov confirmed the evacuation of 1,775 individuals from 30 settlements within the last 24 hours.
President Zelensky’s Response
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the ongoing battle in Kharkiv, stating the need to disrupt Russian offensive operations and regain control for Ukraine. Kharkiv has largely remained under Ukrainian authority since September 2022.
Russian Buildup and Ukrainian Counterattacks
Recent reports indicated a Russian buildup in the region, raising concerns of a potential offensive. Ukrainian forces have retaliated with increased attacks on Russian-held territories, including energy infrastructure.
Oil Depot Strike in Luhansk Region
A Ukrainian strike on an oil storage depot in Ukraine’s occupied Luhansk region resulted in three fatalities, eight injuries, and a significant fire. The incident occurred in the town of Rovenky, 60 kilometers from Luhansk’s regional center.
Response from Luhansk’s Governor
Luhansk’s Russian-installed governor reported that the injured individuals are currently hospitalized following the attack. This strike marked the second assault within a three-day period.
Allegations of Weapon Usage
Luhansk’s governor suggested, without evidence, that Ukraine utilized US-supplied Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) in both recent attacks.
