Debate Challenge Between Trump and Biden
Former President Trump has expressed his desire to debate President Biden before the November 2024 presidential election. Despite skipping GOP candidate debates earlier this year, Trump is now keen on engaging in a debate with Biden.
Trump’s Challenge to Biden
Trump challenged Biden to a debate, expressing his openness to various formats, including one in a courthouse. He posted on Truth Social, “Crooked Joe Biden just announced that he’s willing to debate! Everyone knows he doesn’t really mean it, but in case he does, I say, ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE.”
Trump suggested potential dates for the debate, including evenings at his rally in Michigan, criticizing Biden’s policies in the state. If the proposed dates are not feasible, Trump even proposed holding the debate at the New York courthouse where he is facing trial for alleged offenses.
Biden’s Response
During an interview with radio host Howard Stern, Biden stated that he is willing to debate Trump. He mentioned, “I am happy to debate him, somewhere, I don’t know when.”
Legal Challenges and Campaigning
Trump sees his New York trial as an opportunity to campaign, occasionally giving speeches at news conferences. He plans to spend four days a week in court for several weeks, using the situation to raise campaign funds.
In April 2023, Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts related to payments made before the 2016 election. Despite the legal challenges, polls suggest that his supporters remain loyal. Biden has mostly refrained from commenting on Trump’s trials.
