Re-election Campaign Targets Trump in New Video Ad
As the US elections draw near, US President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign has released a new high-profile video targeting rival Donald Trump. The new video ad, called “Snapped,” has been voiced by Robert De Niro — an old Hollywood foe of Trump — and targets the ex-president as someone who would stop at nothing to grab power.
‘Snapped’
The 30-second video paints a dramatic picture using orchestral music and news images from Trump’s presidency. The ad will be distributed nationally.
“From midnight tweets, to drinking bleach, to teargassing citizens and staging a photo-op, we knew Trump was out of control when he was president, and then he lost the 2020 election and snapped,” says De Niro in the voiceover.
Among the featured photographs from Trump’s presidency is one which shows him at the podium during a notorious 2020 press conference from the Covid-era, where he suggested drinking bleach may combat the deadly virus internally.
It also shows images from the deadly US Capitol January 6, 2021 attack, when Trump supporters encouraged by him broke into the US congressional chambers to try, stop the certification of Joe Biden’s election victory over the Republican leader.
As the images play out, De Niro in the voiceover says Trump was “desperately trying to hold on to power… Now he’s running again, this time threatening to be a dictator, to terminate the constitution.”
The video then goes on to show footage from a recent Trump interview where he warned of a “bloodbath” if he doesn’t win, as the voiceover plays out: “Trump wants revenge and he’ll stop at nothing to get it.”
Finally, it ends with Biden saying “I’m Joe Biden and I approve this message,” as he walks towards a doorway, and salutes the troops that guard him.
As per campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon, “Joe Biden will hold Donald Trump accountable…And he’s raring to go.”
