Trump Hush Money Trial Day 19 Highlights
Prosecution Rests Case
The prosecution concluded its case on Day 19 of Donald Trump’s hush money trial after presenting over 200 pieces of evidence and testimony from 20 witnesses. Key witnesses included Michael Cohen, Stormy Daniels, Hope Hicks, and David Pecker. Cohen alleged that Trump directed him to pay Daniels and approved the reimbursement plan central to the charges. Despite attempts by Trump’s attorney to discredit Cohen, prosecutors used documents and expert testimonies to support Cohen’s claims.
Defence Witness Infuriates Judge
During the trial, defence witness Robert Costello faced the ire of Judge Juan Merchan for repeatedly violating courtroom decorum. Merchan reprimanded Costello for his disrespectful behavior and warned him against showing contempt in court. Costello will continue his testimony under cross-examination by prosecutor Susan Hoffinger.
Trump’s Defence
The defence began its case with Costello and a paralegal and is expected to rest on Tuesday. Judge Merchan has scheduled closing arguments for the following Tuesday. Meanwhile, Cohen admitted to stealing $60,000 from the Trump Organization out of frustration over an unpaid bonus and reiterated that Trump authorized the payment to Daniels.
Prosecutors vs Defence Over Cohen’s Call
A dispute arose between prosecutors and the defence regarding Cohen’s account of a phone call updating Trump on the Daniels payment. While the defence claimed it was about a prank caller, prosecutors presented evidence placing Trump and his bodyguard together at the time of the call. Cohen maintained his stance despite rigorous cross-examination.
