India-Germany Collaboration for Sustainable Development
In a recent interview with WION, German Ambassador Dr. Philipp Ackermann discussed the ongoing collaboration between India and Germany on triangular cooperation projects focused on promoting sustainable development in various regions.
Joint Initiatives in Asia, Africa, and Latin America
Ambassador Ackermann highlighted the combined expertise of both nations coming together in projects across Ghana, Benin, Malawi in Africa, and Peru in Latin America. These initiatives primarily revolve around sustainable farming and agriculture, leveraging the strengths of both countries in this field.
Indo-German Partnership for Green and Sustainable Development (GSDP)
One significant initiative mentioned by Ambassador Ackermann is the GSDP, established after discussions between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The GSDP aims to tackle climate change challenges, protect natural habitats, and develop emission-free urban centers.
“GSDP aims to adapt to climate change, mitigate climate change, preserve nature, preserve the natural habitat and make cities smarter and more emission-free. So it’s a whole package of things we are collecting under this umbrella of this greener Sustainable Development Partnership, that means we will try to very concretely, very operationally improve the situation on the ground and that’s beneficial to everyone,” Ambassador Ackermann explained.
He emphasized the tangible outcomes of the GSDP, noting the allocation of 10 billion euros over the next several years towards these efforts. Projects under GSDP have been implemented in various regions including Cochin, Andhra, Manipur, and the Ganga valley.
Anticipation for Future Developments
Ambassador Ackermann expressed anticipation for significant developments in the India-Germany relationship in the second half of the year. He mentioned the upcoming intergovernmental consultations and highlighted the deepening engagement between Germany and India, such as the Asia Pacific meeting of German business leaders scheduled for October in Delhi.
