Chris Wilder Suggests VAR Controversy Influenced Decision at Forest

Sheffield United vs Nottingham Forest Match Controversy

Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder hinted that match officials made a controversial decision during their match against Nottingham Forest. The Blades felt that Ben Brereton Diaz was unfairly pushed in the build-up to Ryan Yates’ second goal, which ultimately led to Forest’s 3-1 victory at Bramall Lane.

Controversial Decision

Referee Chris Kavanagh did not award a foul despite the push on Brereton Diaz, and VAR Michael Salisbury chose not to intervene. Wilder suggested that recent complaints against VAR by Forest may have influenced the decision-making process.

Post-Match Reactions

Wilder expressed his disappointment with the decision, stating, “It’s a foul isn’t it? He puts two hands in the back, Ben Brereton Diaz doesn’t just fall down. He pushes him.” Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo, on the other hand, acknowledged feeling anxious after Yates’ goal but was relieved that his team avoided further drama.

Match Outcome

Despite Sheffield United taking an early lead through Brereton Diaz, they missed several opportunities, allowing Callum Hudson-Odoi to score twice and secure the win for Forest. This defeat marked a new low for the Blades, as Hudson-Odoi’s second goal was the 100th they had conceded in a 38-game season.

Looking Ahead

Forest boss Nuno remains focused on their bid for Premier League survival, especially with an upcoming appeal against a four-point deduction for financial rule violations. The team’s situation could significantly improve if the appeal is successful, potentially affecting the relegation battle.
