Recent Attack on Chinese Engineers in Pakistan
A senior official from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa interior department revealed that new security plans have been requested by the government following a tragic incident.
Details of the Attack
Last Tuesday, a suicide bombing targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the loss of lives of the engineers and their Pakistani driver.
Reports indicate that the engineers were traveling from Islamabad to their construction site at Dasu when the attack occurred.
China’s Response
China has halted construction on two major dam projects in Pakistan in response to the attack, marking the third recent assault on Chinese interests in the country.
China has urged Pakistan to conduct a thorough investigation into the bombing.
Pakistan’s Action
Pakistan’s Prime Minister has called for a joint probe by military and civilian officials to investigate the attack and enhance security measures for Chinese nationals and assets in the country.
Previous Attacks
Notably, this is the third major attack on Chinese interests in Pakistan within a week, following incidents at a naval air base and a strategic port in Balochistan.
Despite previous attacks in Dasu, no group has claimed responsibility for the recent suicide bombing.
Dasu, the location of a significant dam project, has experienced violence before, including a bus blast in 2021 that resulted in casualties.
